2008 UAA CHAMPIONSHIPS...
CLEVELAND, OH (April 20, 2008) - Case Western Reserve University junior Dominic Smith (New Richmond, OH -pictured) won a University Athletic Association (UAA) individual championship in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and sophomore Obinna Nwanna (Maumee, OH) in the high jump at the 2008 UAA Track & Field Championships at the University of Chicago.
Smith, the 5,000-meter run champion (UAA) this past indoor season, completed the race in a time of 9:31.78 and Nwanna posted a NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 2.04 meters in the high jump. Smith also placed second in the 5,000-meter run in a time 14:57.35.
Senior Brandon Jeffries (Northfield, OH) took second place in the men’s shot put with a throw of 13.88 meters and senior Patrick Benasutti (Ludlow Falls, OH) finished third in the hammer throw with a mark of 43.06 meters to round out the Spartans top performances.
The Spartans finshed fifth overall [out of seven] with 75 points. Carnegie Mellon University won it with a score of 198.50.
