CLEVELAND, OH (March 29, 2008) - The Case Western Reserve University men’s track and field team claimed two individual titles at the 2008 Emory University Track & Field Classic Friday and Saturday in Atlanta, Ga. The Spartans will travel to southern Ohio next weekend to participate in the Olivier Nickoloff Classic hosted by the University of Cincinnati April 5.
Case Western Reserve junior Dominic Smith (New Richmond, OH-pictured) won the 3,000-meter steeplechase on Friday in a time of 9:35.97 and senior Pat Benasutti (Ludlow Falls, OH) and freshman Victor Whitelock (Lexington, OH) both turned in second place finishes in the hammer throw (43.54 meters) and 800-meter run (1:58.09), respectively.
On Saturday, Smith won again in the 5,000-meter run in a time of 15:19.12. Senior Brandon Jeffries (Northfield, OH) finished third in the shot put with a throw of 13.37 meters and sophomore Obinna Nwanna (Maumee, OH) had a third place finish in the high jump with a jump of 1.96 meters.
