CLEVELAND, OH (April 26, 2008) – Freshman designated hitter Steve Bills (Greensburg, PA – pictured) had three hits and scored two runs in the second game of today's doubleheader at Nobby's Ballpark, leading the Case Western Reserve University baseball team to an 8-7 win.
The Spartans wrap up their season this upcoming week at Nobby's Ballpark when they take on Heidelberg College on Apr. 29 at 4:00 p.m. and Muskingum College for a doubleheader on Apr. 30, with game one scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
Down 4-0 going into the bottom of the fourth, the Spartans batted around through the lineup with two outs, as three walks, two hit batsmen, and three hits paved for five runs, giving Case Western Reserve a 5-4 lead.
Washington would tie the game in the sixth and reclaim the lead in the seventh, as Matt Skinner would double and score in the sixth, while Zander Lehmann would double and score on a Scott Kennedy single in the seventh to take a 6-5 lead.
Washington would again walk in the tying run later in the game, as a free pass to freshman infielder Matt Viau (Brampton, MI) in the bottom of the seventh would score Bills from third to make it a 6-6 game. Freshman outfielder Zach Hall (Germantown, MD) would belt an RBI double through the right-side later in the inning to score two, giving the Spartans an 8-6 advantage.
Freshman pitcher Aron Kale (Northridge, CA) would retire the Bears in order in the top of the ninth to pick up the victory, putting his record at 5-3 this spring.
