CASE BASEBALL—2008

Freshman pitcher Tim Coan (Solon, OH) took the loss for the Spartans, while Matt Koopman picked up the victory for the Saints.

The Spartans (10-21-1) will play a doubleheader at home tomorrow when they host Westminster College (Pa.). Game one is scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m.

The Saints would score five runs in the first two innings, including a two-run homer to right-center by Marc Price in the top of the second inning, to put the Spartans down, 5-0.

After freshman infielder Kevin Train (Mechanicsburg, PA) scored on a fielder's choice, freshman catcher Chad Mullins (Fredericksburg , OH – pictured) hit a solo homerun to centerfield to limit Thomas More's lead to 5-2. The homerun is Mullins' fourth of the season and is tied for second in the University Athletic Association. The last Spartan to hit four homeruns in one season was Matt Sterling, who did so in 2004.

The Spartans would make it a 6-3 game in the bottom of the sixth, as a single up the middle by freshman third baseman Zach Fry (Colorado Springs, CO) would score Mullins, who doubled earlier in the inning.
