CLEVELAND, OH (April 15, 2008) – Senior pitcher Kevin Haley (Kent, OH – pictured) went seven and one-third innings, allowing two runs on five hits, while striking out five hitters, as the Case Western Reserve University baseball team claimed a 4-3 victory over Grove City College at Nobby's Ballpark.
The Spartans play a doubleheader against Oberlin College tomorrow at the Pipe Yard in Lorain. Game one will begin at 5:00 p.m.
Case Western Reserve took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first, as a double to the gap in right-center by sophomore outfielder Phil Keefe (Newtonville, MA) scored three Spartans. They would tack on one more in the bottom of the fifth to take a 4-0 lead.
The Wolverines would get one back in the top of the seventh, as a homerun to left by Brian Moran made it a 4-1 game. A Butch Kriger triple that scored Steve Stombaugh made it a 4-2 game.
Haley picked up the victory for the Spartans, while Chris Bowser took the loss for the Wolverines.
Keefe went 2-for-4 with three RBI, while freshman Steve Crilley (Glenshaw, PA) went 3-for-4 with one run scored and one RBI.
