HIRAM 7, CASE 4...
CLEVELAND, OH (April 5, 2008) –In today’s home opener at Nobby’s Ballpark, the Case Western Reserve University baseball team fell 7-4 to Hiram College in a non-conference match-up. The two teams will play one more game this afternoon.
After Hiram went for two runs in the top of the first, the Spartans would answer, as back-to-back singles by freshmen Steve Crilley (Glenshaw, PA) and Steve Bills (Greensburg, PA) scored freshmen Chad Mullins (Fredericksburg, OH-pictured) and Cory Pecoraro (Strongsville, OH) to make it a 2-2 game.
The Terriers would again take a two-run lead, as a Cody Fincham single and a Frank Liscio double gave Hiram a 4-2 lead in the top of the third.
The Spartans made it a one run game in the bottom of the fifth, as a Mullins single drove home sophomore outfielder Phil Keefe (Newtonville, MA) to make it a 4-3 game.
Case Western Reserve would again tie it in the bottom of the seventh, as a Crilley single scored freshman second baseman Kevin Train (Mechanicsburg, PA) to make it a 4-4 game.
In the top of the eighth, Hiram would strike first, as a double to the gap in right-center by Mark Reifsnyder would score Kyle Kovach to give his team a 5-4 lead. The Terriers would tack on two more runs to go up, 7-4.
