WABASH 8, CASE 6...
CLEVELAND, OH (March 30, 2008) – In game one of this afternoon's doubleheader at Mud Hollow Field in Crawfordsville, Ind., the Case Western Reserve University baseball team fell 8-6 to the Little Giants from Wabash College. The two teams will play again today at 2:00 p.m.
Patrick McCarley picked up the win for the Little Giants, while freshman pitcher Zach Fry (Colorado Springs, CO) took the loss for the Spartans.
Already down 4-0 in the top of the third, the Spartans (3-11) got some momentum going after a leadoff walk to junior left fielder Kevin Carney (University Heights, OH) and a bunt single by freshman center fielder Clay Hurley (Connellsville, PA). Sophomore right fielder Phil Keefe (Newtonville, MA) singled home Carney to make it a 4-1 game. After two hit batsmen and a wild pitch plated three more runs, senior infielder Kevin Haley (Kent, OH – pictured) would double down the left field line to give Case Western Reserve a 6-4 lead.
But the Little Giants would answer, as one run in the bottom of the third and two more in the bottom of the fourth paved the way for the Wabash victory. Matt Dodaro finished 2-for-4 with three runs and one RBI.
Haley finished the game 1-for-3 with two RBI, while Keefe finished 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
