CASE 3, WABASH 1...
CLEVELAND, OH (March 29, 2008) – Three runs in the first inning, coupled with a fantastic performance on the mound from senior pitcher Kevin Haley (Kent, OH – pictured) gave the Case Western Reserve University baseball team a 3-1 win over the Little Giants of Wabash College in game two of this afternoon's doubleheader at Mud Hollow Field in Crawfordsville, Ind. The two teams will play twice again tomorrow, with game one beginning at 11:00 a.m.
The Spartans (3-10) came out hitting in the top of the first, back-to-back hits by freshman Kevin Train (Mechanicsburg, PA) and sophomore Phil Keefe (Newtonville, MA) gave Case Western Reserve some momentum. After a walk to freshman Chad Mullins (Fredericksburg, OH) and a wild pitch by Andy Weeks that scored Train from third, freshman infielder Steve Crilley (Glenshaw, PA) singled through the right side to score Keefe and Mullins to give the Spartans a 3-0 advantage.
That's all Haley would need, as the Little Giants could muster just one run – an unearned run in the bottom of the first inning – giving Haley his second win of the spring. Haley went all seven innings, allowing one run on five hits, while striking out five Little Giants.
Crilley finished the game 3-for-3 at the dish with two RBI, while Train finished 2-for-3 with one run to complete a four-hit afternoon.
