WOOSTER, OH (March 26, 2008) – Despite hitting three homeruns on the evening, the Case Western Reserve University baseball team fell 15-6 to John Carroll University this afternoon at Art Murray Field in Wooster, Ohio.
The Spartans will be in action again tomorrow when they go on the road to face Heidelberg College. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
The Spartans jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the second, as freshmen Cory Pecoraro (Strongsville, OH – pictured) and Steve Crilley (Glenshaw, PA) homered to give Case Western Reserve a 2-0 advantage.
The Spartans would use the long-ball again an inning later to extend their lead, as sophomore right fielder Phil Keefe (Newtonville, MA) homered to left-center, scoring freshman infielder Kevin Train (Mechanicsburg, PA) to give Case Western Reserve a 4-0 lead.
However, the Blue Streaks would answer in the top of the fifth, as two hits and two Spartan errors paved the way for four runs, tying the game at 4-4. An Adam Sockel two-run homer an inning later, coupled with a Ryan Lewis double, would extend John Carroll's lead to 7-4. The Blue Streaks would tack on five runs in the top of the ninth inning to all but seal the victory, handing Case Western Reserve the loss.
Pecoraro finished the game 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBI, while Train finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
