SANFORD, FL (March 15, 2008) – The Case Western Reserve University baseball team played its final game of the 2008 University Athletic Association Baseball Championships, as the Spartans fell 10-0 to the No. 5 ranked Eagles from Emory University. With the victory, Emory clinches a share of the UAA title, its third consecutive conference championship (UAA record).
The Spartans finish the UAA Championships with a 1-5 record, putting them at 2-7 this season. Their next game is on Mar. 19 when they go on the road to face Muskingum College. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
Already ahead 3-0 after three innings, the Eagles would extend their lead, as back-to-back homers by Dan Molnar and Steve Bravler gave Emory a 7-0 lead. They would tack on two in the fifth and one in the sixth to take a 10-0 advantage.
Senior shortstop Kevin Haley (Kent, OH – pictured) finished the afternoon 1-for-3 at the plate, while sophomore right-fielder Phil Keefe (Newtonville, MA), freshman catcher Chad Mullins (Fredericksburg, OH), and freshman second baseman Kevin Train (Mechanicsburg, PA) each collected a hit for the Spartans.
Freshman pitcher Kyle Silk (Hudson, OH) took the loss for the Spartans, while Matt Ryckman picked up the win for the Eagles. Box
