CASE BASEBALL—2008

Rochester 's Luke Brocks claimed the victory in his first appearance on the rubber this season, while senior pitcher Kevin Haley (Kent, OH) took the loss for the Spartans.

Case Western Reserve (1-4) will take on the Bears from Washington University (Mo.) at 2:30 p.m.

Already ahead 1-0 after the first inning of play, Rochester tacked on nine runs on seven hits in the bottom of the second to take a 10-0 lead.

The Spartans would get some momentum going in the top of the fourth, as freshman third baseman Steve Crilley (Glenshaw, PA) singled home freshman first baseman Cory Pecoraro (Strongsville, OH) to limit Rochester 's lead to 10-1. Crilley finished 2-for-4 at the dish in game one.

An inning later with one out and the bases loaded, freshman catcher Steve Bills (Greensburg, PA) would reach on a fielder's choice and score freshman infielder Kevin Train (Mechanicsburg, PA) to make it a 10-2 game.

Senior infielder Michael Robinson (Cleveland, OH – pictured) brought the Spartans closer in the top of the sixth, as his pinch-hit single with one out scored Crilley to make it an 11-3 game. The Spartans added one more in the top of the seventh to make it 11-4. Robinson finished 2-for-2 with a walk in game one.

After freshman centerfielder Clay Hurley (Connellsville, PA) led off the top of the eighth inning with a bunt single and reached third after two wild pitches, sophomore right-fielder Phil Keefe ( Newtonville , MA ) hit an RBI single to limit Rochester 's lead to 11-5.

Freshman pitcher Simon Weaver (Bethesda, MD) pitched well in relief of senior Haley, going six and two-thirds innings, giving up one run on seven hits, striking out two, while walking just one batter.
