LAGRANGE 17, CASE 3...
LAGRANGE, GA (March 9, 2008) – The Case Western Reserve University baseball team lost its second game in-a-row to LaGrange College, as the Panthers came away with a 17-3 victory at Cleaveland Field in LaGrange, Ga.
Case Western Reserve had six hits on the afternoon, while LaGrange went for 18 hits in their second win in-a-row.
The Spartans will head to Sanford, Fla. from Mar. 11-15 for the 2008 University Athletic Association Championships. The team will open up on Mar. 11 against Brandeis at 11:00 a.m.
The Panthers started where they left off yesterday afternoon, as two hits and two Case Western Reserve errors paved the way for a 3-0 advantage in the bottom of the first. The team would tack on four more an inning later to take a 7-0 lead.
LaGrange would all but seal the win in the bottom of the fourth when the team combined for seven runs on seven hits to take a 15-0 lead.
Freshman catcher Chad Mullins (Fredericksburg, OH–pictured) would get the Spartans on the scoreboard in the top of the fifth, as his double to the right-center gap scored sophomore first baseman Chip Dean (Lexington, VA). The Spartans added two more runs in the top of the seventh to make it a 17-3 game.
Freshman Simon Weaver (Bethesda, MD) took the loss for the Spartans, while Eric Medlock took the victory for the Panthers.
