LAGRANGE 30, CASE 4...
LAGRANGE, GA (March 8, 2008) – The Case Western Reserve University baseball team couldn’t find a way to hold off the Panthers from LaGrange College, as the Spartans fell 30-4 at Cleaveland Field in LaGrange, Ga. The loss puts the Spartans at 1-1 this season, while the Panthers move to 5-7 with the victory.
Case Western Reserve was held to six hits, while LaGrange exploded for 26 hits on the afternoon.
With the Panthers ahead 1-0 in the bottom of the third inning, senior pitcher Kevin Haley (Kent, OH–pictured) would hit two batters and walk one, leading to six LaGrange runs, as the Spartans were down, 7-0. The Panthers would tack on four more in the inning to take an 11-0 advantage.
Freshman Tim Coan (Solon, OH) would get some momentum going an inning later, as his lead-off single and a base-hit by freshman Cory Pecoraro (Strongsville, OH) limited LaGrange’s lead to 11-1. The Spartans would add two more to make it an 11-3 game.
But it wouldn’t be enough, as LaGrange would score four runs on five hits in the bottom of the fourth inning to increase its lead to 15-3 and all but seal the win.
The Spartans will play the Panthers again tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. before heading to Sanford, Fla. for the 2008 University Athletic Association Championships from Mar. 11-15.
