CLEVELAND, OH (May 2, 2007) –
Junior shortstop Kevin Haley (Kent, OH) went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, a walk, and his first home run of the year as the Case Western Reserve University baseball team won the final game of the season, taking game two of a doubleheader from Allegheny College 8-1.
The game was scoreless until the fourth inning, when the two teams traded runs. Then the Spartans exploded for three in the fifth and four in the seventh to put the game away. Senior catcher Marshall Hampton (St. Petersburg, FL) went 4-for-5 with an RBI, freshman outfielder Phil Keefe (Newtonville, MA) went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, and freshman designated hitter Chip Dean (Lexington, VA) went 1-for-4 with two runs scored.
Senior pitcher John Thuermer (Dublin, OH-pictured) threw a complete game in his last collegiate start, getting the win (4-4). He gave up one earned run on eight hits and no walks, striking out one.
The Spartans finish up the season with a 12-20 record, their best in more than four years.
