CHICAGO 23, CASE 4...
CLEVELAND, OH (April 29, 2007) –
Senior center fielder David Adams (Middlefield, OH-pictured) went 1-for-3 with a walk, two RBIs, and a run scored as the Case Western Reserve University baseball team lost to the University of Chicago 23-4 in St. Louis, MO.
Although the Spartans were only out-hit 17-11, Chicago took advantage of nine errors and ten walks allowed to slug its way to the win. Case scored three of their runs in the fourth inning, during which Adams, junior Kevin Haley (Kent, OH), and freshman Keith Lupton (Cortland, OH) all singled, and freshman Chris Zagore (Traverse City, MI) walked. The only extra base hits by the Spartans were both senior Marshall Hampton’s (St. Petersburg, FL) double in the first and freshman Chip Dean’s (Lexington, VA) double in the second.
Haley was the starting pitcher and loser (2-5), giving up eleven runs (six earned) on seven hits and two walks, with one strikeout in one and a third innings of work. In relief, Zagore gave up three runs in two and two-thirds innings, freshman Phil Keefe (Newtonville, MA) gave up seven runs in one inning, and sophomore Kevin Carney (University Hts., OH) gave up two runs in one inning.
The Spartans (11-19) will finish their season on Wednesday when they travel to Allegheny College for a noon doubleheader.
