WASHINGTON 8, CASE 4...
CLEVELAND, OH (April 28, 2007) –
Senior outfielder Marshall Hampton (St. Petersburg, FL-pictured) drove in two runs as the Case Western Reserve University baseball team lost in St. Louis to Washington University, 8-4.
The game was back-and-forth for the majority of the innings. Hampton’s two-run single tied the game at three in the sixth, and freshman Chip Dean (Lexington, VA) singled in sophomore third baseman Ben Faber (Fostoria, OH) to tie the game at four in the seventh. However, in the next half-inning, Washington exploded for four runs, and the Spartans could not catch up. For the game, Hampton and Dean both went 1-for-4, Faber went 0-for-2 with two walks, senior second baseman Kevin Sudnik (Brookpark, OH) went 2-for-4, and senior first baseman John Thuermer (Dublin, OH) went 2-for-3.
Senior pitcher J.R. Doolos (Clayton, OH) was the starting pitcher and took the loss (6-4), giving up eight earned runs on 14 hits and two walks, striking out three in seven innings of work. Dean pitched a scoreless inning in relief.
