DENISON 9, CASE 2...
CLEVELAND, OH (April 19, 2007) – Senior second baseman Kevin Sudnik (Brookpark, OH-pictured) went 1-for-4 with an RBI double as the Case Western Reserve University baseball team lost to Denison University at Nobby’s Ballpark 9-2.
After Denison got four quick runs in the top of the first, the Spartans loaded the bases in the bottom of the inning but failed to score. Both Case runs were scored in the third inning, on Sudnik’s RBI double and a later error. Every Spartan starter and most of the subs reached base exactly once in the game, and four reached base via the hit by pitch, the most in a game this year.
Freshman pitcher Phil Keefe (Newtonville, MA) was the starting pitcher and loser (0-4), giving up eight runs (seven earned) on nine hits and two walks, striking out one in four innings of work. Freshman Chris Zagore (Traverse City, MI) followed with two hitless innings, giving up one unearned run, and freshman Chip Dean (Lexington, VA) pitched a perfect seventh.
The Spartans (10-12) will next travel to John Carroll on Sunday for a 1:00 doubleheader.
