DENISON 16, CASE 8...
CLEVELAND, OH (April 19, 2007) – Senior second baseman Kevin Sudnik (Brookpark, OH) went 4-for-5 with a double, an RBI, and two runs scored as the Case Western Reserve University baseball team lost to Denison University 16-8 at Jacobs Field.
The Spartans initially matched Denison run for run, scoring four innings in the bottom of the first after Denison jumped out to a 4-0 lead, and the score was tied 6-6 after three innings. However, while Denison scored eight runs over the next three innings, Case only scored one off of Denison’s submarine pitcher Mike Hudson, whose funky pitching motion induced many key groundouts and pop flies. Other hitting stars for the Spartans in the game were senior catcher Marshall Hampton (St. Petersburg, FL-pictured), who went 3-for-5 with a double and a run scored, and sophomore outfielder Kevin Carney (University Hts., OH), who went 2-for-5 with a double, two RBIs, and two runs scored.
Junior pitcher Kevin Haley (Kent, OH) was the starter and took the loss (2-3), giving up eight runs (six earned) on eight hits and three walks, striking out two in four innings of work. Senior John Thuermer (Dublin, OH) took over and gave up six runs (four earned) in two innings, followed by Carney, who gave up two runs (one earned) in two innings, and sophomore Chris Lambert (Canal Fulton, OH), who pitched a scoreless ninth.
