CASE 3, OBERLIN 2...
CLEVELAND, OH (April 18, 2007) – Senior pitcher J.R. Doolos (Clayton, OH-pictured) pitched his fifth complete game of the season as the Case Western Reserve University baseball team defeated Oberlin College 3-2 in the first game of a doubleheader.
The Spartans scored all three of their runs in the first inning. After senior center fielder David Adams (Middlefield, OH) led off with a walk, senior left fielder Marshall Hampton (St. Petersburg, FL) singled, and junior shortstop Kevin Haley (Kent, OH) was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Next, junior first baseman Jamal Mahmud (Flemington, NJ) hit a two-run double and sophomore catcher Kevin Carney (University Hts., OH) hit a sacrifice fly. Oberlin got the tying run on second base in the top of the seventh, but Doolos struck out the next batter to end the game. For the game, Mahmud went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs.
Doolos (6-2) gave up two runs (one earned) on four hits and no walks, striking out six in seven innings.
