HIRAM 5, CASE 1...
CLEVELAND, OH (April 4, 2007) – Junior catcher Kevin Carney (University Heights, OH-pictured) went 2-for-3 as the Case Western Reserve University baseball team lost the second game of the doubleheader against Hiram College 5-1.
The Spartans’ lone run was scored in the second inning. After Carney hit a one-out single, he stole second, advanced to third on a throwing error, and scored on a double by senior outfielder J.R. Doolos (Clayton, OH). Junior shortstop Kevin Haley (Kent, OH) and senior second baseman Kevin Sudnik (Brookpark, OH) collected Case’s other two hits in the game.
Spartan freshman pitcher Phil Keefe (Newtonville, MA) got the start and was charged with the loss (0-3), giving up four earned runs on eight hits and three walks in four innings, striking out two. Sophomore Chris Lambert (Canal Fulton, OH) pitched well in relief, giving up one earned run on two hits and no walks in two innings, striking out one.
The Spartans will next travel to Thiel College on Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader.
