CASE 5, MYERS 2...
CLEVELAND, OH (March 27, 2007) – Senior pitcher J.R. Doolos (Clayton, OH) pitched his fourth straight complete game, as the Case Western Reserve University baseball won their third straight game over Myers University, and fifth straight overall, by a score of 5-2.
After Myers took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, the Spartans answered with one in the second, two in the third, and runs in the fifth and seventh innings. In the second, senior catcher Marshall Hampton (St. Petersburg, FL-pictured) hit an infield single, stole second, and scored on a groundout. In the third, after junior first baseman Jamal Mahmud (Flemington, NJ) hit a single, and Doolos reached on an error, Hampton drove them both in with a triple. In the fifth, Mahmud doubled and scored on a groundout, and in the seventh, senior outfielder David Adams (Middlefield, OH) singled, stole second and third, and scored on a single by Doolos.
For the day, Adams went 2-for-3 with a walk and three stolen bases and Hampton went 2-for-4 with 3 RBIs and one stolen base. In all, Case runners stole six bases.
Doolos gave up two runs (one earned) on seven hits and one walk, striking out seven.
The Spartans’ five-game winning streak and their 7-5 start to the season are their best in more than four years. Tomorrow’s road game against Kenyon College is cancelled, but Case will host another game against Myers tomorrow at 4:00 p.m.
