CASE 4, MYERS 2...
CLEVELAND, OH (March 25, 2007) – Senior second baseman Kevin Sudnik (Brookpark, OH-pictured) went 2-for-2 with a walk, a double, and two RBIs as the Case Western Reserve University baseball team defeated Myers University 4-2 in the first game of a doubleheader at Nobby's Ballpark.
The Spartans scored two runs in the third inning and two runs in the fifth. In the third, after a single by senior outfielder David Adams (Middlefield, OH) and a walk by junior shortstop Kevin Haley (Kent, OH), Sudnik hit a two-run double. In the fifth, sophomore third baseman Ben Faber (Fostoria, OH) was hit by pitch, and then sophomore outfielder Kevin Carney (University Hts., OH) followed with a bunt single. After a double steal, Adams drove in a run with a single. A one-out walk loaded the bases, and junior first baseman Jamal Mahmud (Flemington, NJ) followed with a sacrifice fly, driving in Carney. Adams finished the game 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, and Haley went 0-for-1 with two walks.
Senior pitcher John Thuermer (Dublin, OH) had a nice showing. In six and one-third innings of work, Thuermer (1-2) gave up two runs (one earned) on seven hits, walking two and striking out four. Haley pitched the final two-thirds of an inning for his first collegiate save.
