EMORY 10, CASE 4...
CLEVELAND, OH (March 16, 2007) –Sophomore catcher Kevin Carney (University Heights, OH-pictured) went 2-for-3 with 3 RBIs as the Case Western Reserve University baseball team lost to Emory University in UAA play 10-4.
Emory jumped out to the lead early with a two-run first inning and a four-run second. Case scored all its runs in the sixth inning. Junior shortstop Kevin Haley (Kent, OH) and senior second baseman Kevin Sudnik (Brookpark, OH) led off with singles. After a flyout advanced them to second and third base, senior outfielder J.R. Doolos (Clayton, OH) walked to load the bases. Carney’s two-out double cleared the bases, and he scored on a throwing error by the shortstop on an infield single by freshman Chip Dean (Lexington, VA). Senior center fielder David Adams (Middlefield, OH) went 2-for-4 with two doubles, while Dean and Haley also finished 2-for-4.
Senior pitcher John Thuermer (Dublin, OH) started for the Spartans and was charged with the loss (0-2), after giving up six earned runs on nine hits and no walks, striking out three in one and two-thirds innings of work.
The Spartans (2-5, 1-4 UAA) finish the 2007 UAA tournament tomorrow with a game against Brandeis at 6:00 PM.
