BRANDEIS 13, CASE 2...
CLEVELAND, OH (March 15, 2007) – Senior outfielder David Adams (Middlefield, OH-pictured) and junior second baseman Kevin Haley (Kent, OH) each had two hits and scored a run as the Case Western Reserve University baseball team fell to Brandeis University 13-2 in Sanford, Fla.
The Spartans scored an early run in the first inning to tie the score at one. After Haley’s leadoff single, freshman pitcher Phil Keefe (Newtonville, MA) reached on an error. Haley moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a groundout. A nine-run Brandeis second inning put the game out of reach. Case loaded the bases in the sixth inning, and Adams scored on a sacrifice fly by sophomore outfielder Matt Patton (Solon, OH).
Keefe was the starting pitcher and took the loss (0-1), giving up ten earned runs on nine hits and two walks, striking out two in one and two-thirds innings of work. Freshman Chip Dean (Lexington, VA) pitched two scoreless innings in relief.
The Spartans (2-3, 1-2 UAA) continue University Athletic Association Championship Tournament play with a doubleheader tomorrow at 11:00 AM against Washington University and Emory University.
