CASE 4, ROCHESTER 1...
CLEVELAND, OH (March 14, 2006) –Sanford, FL (March 14, 2007) – Senior pitcher J.R. Doolos (Clayton, OH-pictured) pitched a complete game, scattering five hits, as the Case Western Reserve University baseball team defeated the University of Rochester in UAA play, 4-1.
The Spartans scored all four of their runs in the second inning. After one-out singles by senior shortstop Kevin Sudnik (Brookpark, OH) and senior first baseman John Thuermer (Dublin, OH), senior outfielder David Adams (Middlefield, OH) drove in a run with a double. After a wild pitch scored the second run, junior second baseman Kevin Haley (Kent, OH) drove in Adams with a single. After freshman outfielder Phil Keefe (Newtonville, MA) walked and junior third baseman Jamal Mahmud (Flemington, NJ) hit an infield single to load the bases, the fourth run of the inning was scored on a groundout. Haley and Sudnik both finished the game 2-for-3 with a walk, while junior catcher Marshall Hampton (St. Petersburg, FL) stole his first base of the year in the first inning.
Doolos struck out six and walked one while giving up one earned run, lowering his ERA to 2.57 and improving his won-lost record to 1-1 on the year.
The Spartans will continue UAA play tomorrow as they face Brandeis University at 9:00 AM.
