UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, OH (April 25, 2006) – Case Western Reserve junior Marshall Hampton (St. Petersburg, FL) - pictured went 3-for-4 from the plate but it wasn't enough as John Carroll defeated the Spartans 20-9 this afternoon. Case committed nine errors and gave up 22 hits in the loss.
Case jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning highlighted by a two-out, two-run single by Dan McNally (Pittsburgh, PA). The Blue Streaks then tallied 12 runs in the first two innings to take a 12-6 lead after two innings. The Spartans managed to draw within four runs, 12-8, on two RBI from Josh Knipp (Defiance, OH) in the third inning. John Carroll then put the game out of reach with four runs in the fourth and three runs in the sixth.
John Carroll's number one and two hitters each finished the game with 4-for-7 performances from the plate. The Blue Streaks improved to 19-12 with the victory while Case fell to 10-18-1 on the season.
