CLEVELAND, OH (April 19, 2006) – Case Western Reserve University senior Tim Koenig (Euclid, OH) - pictured went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs as the Spartans defeated the Hiram College Terriers 9-8 this afternoon at Jacobs Field.
Senior second baseman Dan McNally (Pittsburgh, PA) went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and sophomore designated hitter Kevin Sudnik (Brookpark, OH) added two RBIs for Case as well. Case jumped out to a 9-2 lead after five innings before Hiram got back into the game with six runs in the sixth inning.
Junior pitcher John Thuermer (Dublin, OH) picked up his third win of the season. Thuermer pitched 5.1 innings, giving up seven runs on eight hits. Senior pitcher Rich Mullen (Columbus, OH) picked up his second save of the year for the Spartans. Mullen came in with one out in the ninth inning and the tying run on second base. The runner reached third on a groundout before Mullen struck out the final batter of the game.
Case will host Westminster College in a doubleheader tomorrow at Nobby's Ballpark (1:00 p.m.).
