CASE 9, OBERLIN 8...
CLEVELAND, OH (April 5, 2006) – Case Western Reserve junior designated hitter Joe McCrackin - pictured (Tallmadge, OH) went 2-for-2 with a double, triple and had two RBIs including the game winning sacrifice fly as the Spartans defeated Oberlin College 9-8 today at Nobby's Ballpark. Senior left fielder Josh Knipp (Defiance, OH) went 3-4 with a run scored and an RBI to aid the Spartan efforts.
Aggressive base running helped the cause as Case stole eight bases including two by senior shortstop Tim Koenig (Euclid, OH).
Junior pitcher John Thuermer (Dublin, OH) went six innings in picking up the win. Thuermer gave up three runs on five hits and two walks. He added seven strikeouts as well. Freshman Jonathan Fagert (Delmont, PA) picked up the save for the Spartans in two innings of work. He gave up one unearned run on three hits and struck out two Yeomen.
Case, now 4-11 on the season, returns to action Saturday as they host Hiram College in a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Nobby's Ballpark.
