BEREA, OH (April 4, 2006) – The Spartans jumped out to an early 2-1 lead in the third inning behind a two-run double by Marshall Hampton - pictured (St. Petersburg, FL), but a nine-run seventh inning vaulted Baldwin Wallace to a 14-5 victory over Case. The Yellow Jackets improved to 11-7 with the win while the Spartans lost their second in a row to drop to 3-11 on the year.
Case and Baldwin Wallace traded runs in the middle innings, with the Spartans moving back ahead in the sixth inning on a two-run single by senior Dan McNally (Pittsburgh, PA). The 5-4 Spartan lead didn't last long as the Yellow Jackets knotted the game at 5-5 after the sixth inning. Baldwin Wallace then broke the game open in the seventh inning as they scored nine runs on five hits.
Senior Josh Knipp (Defiance, OH) and sophomore Kevin Haley (Kent, OH) each finished with two hits apiece for Case. Baldwin Wallace Dan Melito (Massillon, OH) led the Yellow Jackets with a 4-for-5 performance from the plate scoring three runs and driving in five.
The Spartans return to action again tomorrow when they host Oberlin College in a 3:30 p.m. game.
