LAKE ERIE COLLEGE 7, CASE 6...
PAINESVILLE, OH (March 23, 2006) – The Case Western Reserve University suffered a late-inning 7-6 loss to Lake Erie College this afternoon as the Storm scored seven unanswered runs in the final three innings. Third baseman Kevin Haley (Kent, OH) led the Spartans as he went 2-for-3 from the plate and scored two runs.
The Spartans jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the fourth inning on five hits. Jamal Mahmud (Flemington, NJ), Dan McNally - pictured (Pittsburgh, PA), and Josh Knipp (Defiance, OH) each drove in one run apiece for Case in the inning. The Spartans added another run in the fifth as Haley singled, stole second, and was singled in by Ben Faber (Fostoria, OH).
The Storm got on the scoreboard with a run in the seventh and then added another in the eighth to make the score the score 6-2. A three-run home run by Lake Erie sophomore Rocky Pfisterer (Akron, OH) in the eighth inning made the score 6-5. Then in the bottom of the ninth inning, Lake Erie's Terry Bailey (Cleveland, OH) hit a two-run walkoff triple to end the game at 7-6.
J.R. Doolos (Clayton, OH) pitched 8.1 innings for the Spartans, giving up eight hits and seven runs while striking out eight Lake Erie batters.
