CLEVELAND, OH (March 22, 2006) – Case Western Reserve University sophomore first baseman Jamal Mahmud (Flemington , NJ) - pictured went 2-for-3 with two doubles as the Spartans dropped the first game in Nobby's Ballpark to the Blue Streaks of John Carroll University by a final score of 5-0. The Spartans had just four hits in the game and were guilty of two errors.
Junior pitcher John Thuermer (Dublin , OH) took the loss for Case. Thuermer pitched eight innings, giving up four runs on nine hits. He struck out six John Carroll (11-2) batters while walking just two. The Spartans, who fall to 2-7 overall, travel to Lake Erie College tomorrow.
