HIRAM 4, CASE 3 ...
HIRAM, OH (April 9, 2005) – Hiram College hit a game-winning walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to send Case Western Reserve to their fourth straight defeat, 4-3 this afternoon. Case out-hit Hiram 11 hits to six, but it wasn't enough as Hiram was able to strand 10 Case base runners on base.
Three Case batters finished the game with two hits apiece as Tim Koenig (Euclid, OH) finished two for four with one RBI and Marshall Hampton (St. Petersburg, FL) and Chris Sisson (West Palm Beach, FL) each went two for four from the plate. Mark Jungermann (Avon Lake, OH) scored two runs for the Spartans with Sisson scoring the third Case run. Also driving in runs for Case were Joe McCrackin (Tallmadge, OH) and Josh Knipp (Defiance, OH) who both finished with one RBI apiece.
Case pitcher Max Briggs (Cleveland Hts., OH) struck out five batters in six innings and allowed just three earned runs (one unearned) on six hits. With the loss, the Spartans move to 6-16 on the year while Hiram improves to 10-8.
Case takes the field again tomorrow when they play Penn State Behrend in a double header in Erie, PA.
