WILKES 13, CASE 8 ...
COCOA BEACH , FL (March 7, 2005) – The Case Western Reserve University baseball team suffered their first loss of the year in a 13-8 extra innings defeat at the hands of Wilkes University . The Spartans move to 2-1 on the season while Wilkes improved to 3-1.
The teams battle back and forth and entered the sixth inning tied at six. Wilkes put two runs on the board in the top of the sixth to go ahead 8-6. In the bottom half of the inning, the Spartans battled back to knot the game up 8-8.
In the eighth inning, Wilkes exploded for five runs on five hits to go ahead for good 13-8. Wilkes was led by third-baseman Chris Mayerski who went 4-5 with four RBIs and two runs scored, including a two-run home run.
Case was led by junior Max Briggs ( Cleveland Heights , OH ) who was 2-4 with two RBIs and a run scored. Also recording two hits for the Spartans were Tim Koenig ( Euclid , OH ) and Joe McCrackin ( Tallmadge , OH ).
Senior Ryan Spoer ( Venus , PA ) pitched three and two-thirds inning for the loss while Jeff Ridge surrendered two runs over three innings to get the victory for Wilkes.
