CASE 3, URSINUS 2 ...
COCOA BEACH , FL (March 6, 2005) – The Case men's baseball team got the season started the right way with a 3-2 victory over Ursinus College . Sophomore pitcher J.R. Doolos (Clayton, OH) picked up the win with complete game (7 innings) effort. Doolos gave up two runs (one earned), four hits and had six strikeouts.
Trailing 0-2 in the third inning, Case got a two hit rally after sophomore catcher Marshall Hampton (St. Petersburg, FL) reached on an error. Hampton scored on a double by junior centerfielder Max Briggs (Cleveland, OH) after stealing second. Briggs would score on a double by senior first baseman Scott Greer to even the score 2-2.
Case picked up the victory in fifth inning behind a run by junior left fielder Josh Knipp (Defiance, OH). Knipp singled to start the inning. He would advance to second behind a single by Hampton . After an attempted pickoff at second, Knipp would score when the ball sailed into the outfield.
Knipp finished 2-4 for Case. Briggs went 2-4 with a double and an RBI. Case plays a doubleheader tomorrow in Cocoa Beach , Florida.
