CLEVELAND, OH (October 4, 2009) - The Case Western Reserve University women’s tennis team fared well at the 2009 Wilson/ITA Central Regional Championship this weekend at DePauw University.

Freshman No. 1 Samantha Lewis (Nashville, TN-pictured) won three straight matches before falling in the quarterfinals to the No. 2 seed, the University of Chicago’s Jennifer Kung, 6-2 and 6-2.  Lewis, who won her first two matches 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 and 6-2, 6-1, defeated the No. 6 seed, Calvin College’s Melissa Oosterhouse, 7-5 and 7-5 to advance to the quarterfinals.   

Lewis and freshman No. 5 Kathleen Evers (Cincinnati, OH) had a nice run in doubles play.  After losing their first match, they rebounded and made it to the consolation doubles finals before pulling out to return the Cleveland.  

Freshman No. 2 Erika Lim (Fullerton, CA) also had a nice tournament.  Lim made it to the round of 16, which included a big win over the No. 15 seed, Denison University’s Erin Chadwell, 6-3 and 6-1.  She eventually lost to the first seed.  She also teamed up with freshman No. 3 Emily Pham (Mason, OH) to win two doubles matches 8-2 and 8-2, before falling to the No. 2 seeded team.
