SPARTAN WOMEN'S SOCCER—2009
Case Defeats HIRAM, 4-0
CLEVELAND, OH (October 7, 2009) - The Case Western Reserve University women's soccer team defeated Hiram University, 4-0, in Hiram, Ohio.
With the win, Case Western Reserve moves to 6-3-2 overall and 1-0 in UAA play, while Hiram fell to 6-4-2 overall.
The Spartans got on the board first in the 22nd minute when freshman midfielder Deena Levey (Columbus, OH) assisted junior forward Ana Arruda (Ann Arbor, MI ~ pictured). Just two minutes later, senior midfielder Caroline Garber (Cincinnati, OH ) scored her third goal of the season. At 33:31, the same Arruda and Levey combination hooked up again for Arruda's team-high sixth goal. The Spartans capped the scoring in the 79th minute when sophomore Rebecca Vaughn (Parma, OH) scored her first career goal off an assist from freshman midfielder Alyssa Lauzau (Pickerington, OH).
The Spartans won the battle of shots, 19-2, and held a 4-0 advantage in corner kicks.
In goal, sophomore Anna Kennedy (Evanston, IL) made one save.
Case Western Reserve is in action next when it travels to New York this weekend to face New York University on Saturday, October 10, at 1:30 p.m.
