SPARTAN TRACK AND FIELD — 2008/09
NCAA championships...
CLEVELAND, OH (May 22, 2009) - The first time was a charm for Case Western Reserve University freshman student-athlete Erin Hollinger. Hollinger became an All-American today when she tied for fifth place in the women’s high jump at the 2009 NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships in Marietta, Ohio.

“I didn’t really have any expectations because she was a freshman – you never know how they are going to do at their first Nationals,” Head Coach Steve Rubin explained. “The main thing was that she enjoyed herself and remained relaxed. It paid off because she kept her head and executed.”
The rookie national qualifier went 1.67 meters which was a personal best. Hollinger had a banner year for the Spartans in 2008-09. Just weeks after finishing her freshman basketball season, which she was an All-University Athletic Association (UAA) second team honoree, Hollinger placed second in the high jump at the UAA Indoor Championships. She then won the UAA outdoor title with a mark of 1.62 meters.
“It’s been a great ride,” Hollinger said. “There is not much you can say about it [the event] – you go there and jump over the bar. I just tried to stay calm and do the best I could.”
