SPARTAN TRACK AND FIELD — 2008/09
UAA CHAMPIONSHIPS...
CLEVELAND, OH (March 7, 2009) - Sophomore Justine Jeroski (Murrysville, PA-pictured) had a phenomenal weekend, winning the 3,000 and 5,000 meter runs to become a dual UAA champion and lead all Spartan scorers at the UAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in New York.
The Spartans finished with 42 points over the weekend which netted them a fifth place finish. Washington University would win the women's team championship with 138 points.
Jeroski won the 5,000 meter run on Friday in 17:35.30, which was 24 seconds ahead of the second place finisher. Then on Saturday she won the 3,000 meter run with a time of 10:06.14, to become a UAA champion in both events she competed in. Jeroski would rack up 20 of Case Western Reserve University’s total points over the weekend.
Just days after being named an All-UAA basketball player, freshman Erin Hollinger (Chardon, OH) earned All-UAA honors in the high jump in her first track and field event of the season. Hollinger cleared a 1.62m jump which was good for second place and eight points in the event, while freshman Cara Dreussi (Canton, OH) earned a sixth place finish with a 1.52m jump.
Senior Elizabeth Ehrke (Pewaukee, WI) set a personal record in the weight throw with a career-high 15.71m throw that netted her a fourth place finish in the event. She would also score in the shot put by earning sixth place with an 11.74m throw.
Also scoring over the weekend were junior distance runner Elaine Simpson (Arlington Heights, OH) who placed fourth in the 5,000 meter run [18.11.44], senior distance runner Kristen Bowhers (Rochester, NY) who placed fifth in the one mile run [5:22.74] and sophomore Kali Knolle (East Aurora, NY) who earned a fourth place finish in the triple jump [10.96m].
