SPARTAN TRACK AND FIELD —2008/09
GREATER CLEVELAND CHAMPIONSHIPS...
CLEVELAND, OH (February 20, 2009) -
The Case Western Reserve University women’s track and field team scored high in running, throwing, and jumping events, racking up 122 points on their way to a second place finish at the Greater Cleveland Championships at Baldwin-Wallace College today.
There were eight teams which competed in the meet, and Notre Dame College won the event with 130 points. John Carroll came in third place behind Case Western Reserve with 115 points.
Senior thrower Elizabeth Ehrke (Pewaukee, WI) led the Spartans by totaling 16 points in her two events. In the weight throw, Ehrke placed first with a 15.19m throw that earned the team ten points. Then she threw a season best 11.69m in the shot put which was good for third place in the event and six more points.
Freshman sprinter Nataija Brown (Cleveland, OH-pictured) turned some heads placing second in the 55 meter dash (7.65) and third in the 200 meter dash (27.98), totaling 14 points on the night. Senior runner Kristen Bowhers (Rochester, NY) matched Brown’s scoring outputs with a second place finish in the one-mile run (5:16.69) and third place finish in the 800 Meter Run (2:31.26).
Winning the 800 meter run was sophomore distance runner Bettina Kaphingst (Lewiston, NY) who crossed the finish line first in 2:25.19, adding on another ten points to the Spartans score. Sophomore Kali Knolle (East Aurora, NY) continued her success in the triple jump with a second place finish (10.37m) in the event.
The Spartans will spend the next two weeks getting set to compete in the UAA Championships, which will be held at New York University on Mar. 6-7.
