CLEVELAND, OH (October 17, 2009) -
The No. 13-ranked Case Western Reserve University women’s cross country team placed second out of 25 teams with 105 points today at the Inter Regional Rumble (6k) hosted by Oberlin College. The field included both regionally and nationally ranked programs. Johns Hopkins University, currently ranked second in the nation, won the women’s race with a score of 62.

The Spartans had three runners place in the Top 20 led by senior Elaine Simpson (Arlington Heights, IL-pictured), who placed third overall (out of over 200 participants) in a time of 21.44. Junior Justine Jeroski (Murrysville, PA) and sophomore Natalia Cabrera (Shaker Heights, OH) finished 10th (21.59) and 16th (22:13), respectively.
The Case Western Reserve men's cross country team finished 12th out of 28 teams (8k) with 379 points. University Athletic Association (UAA) foes, New York University, won the men’s race with a score of 53.
Junior Tim Smith (Sandusky, OH-pictured) led the way for the Spartans with a 60th place finish at 26:23. Senior Brian Cromer (Papillion) was right behind him at 68th (26:27) and freshman Philip Yeung (Pittsburgh, PA) finished 77th (26:27).
Both Spartan cross country teams will be off this weekend as they prepare to host the 2009 UAA Championships (October 31) at Squire Valleevue Farm in Hunting Valley. Click here for more information.
