SPARTAN WOMEN'S SOFTBALL—2009

bethany 2, CASE 0...

CLEVELAND, OH (March 31, 2009) - Senior pitcher Ruthe Sagartz (Albuquerque, NM-pictured) allowed only three hits in six innings, but Case Western Reserve University [8-13, 0-8 UAA] struggled to get on base as well and Bethany College picked up a 2-0 win today on their home ball park.

Sagartz did not allow a single hit in four of her six innings on the mound, but the three she did allow would prove to be costly. Bethany scored one run on two hits in the third inning and added another score on an RBI single in the fifth to put away the Spartans. Sagartz would strike out two batters and force ten groundouts in the loss.

Sophomore shortstop Beth Andrasik (Sagamore Hills, OH) reached on an error in the top of the first inning and freshman outfielder Lauren Wolz (Ashburn, VA) advanced her to third on a hard hit single. Case Western Reserve would leave the inning without a run and would only produce one more hit in the game when Wolz hit her second single of the game in the sixth.

Wolz, who earlier in the week was named the University Athletic Association Athlete of the Week for the second time this season, went 2-3 in the game and now has a team high 23 hits.
