CLEVELAND, OH (November 7, 2009) - Case Western Reserve University sophomore Isaac Dukes (Ravenna, OH-pictured) won the 157-pound weight class at the 2009 Messiah College Invitational this weekend in Grantham, Penn.
The Spartans finished seventh as a team (out of nine) with a score of 37.5 while Elizabethtwon College won the invitational with 104 points. Case Western Reserve next travels to Baldwin Wallace College for a 7:00 p.m. dual match November 14.
After receiving a first-round bye as the No. 1 seed, Dukes rattled off four convincing wins. His toughest match of the tournament came in the semifinals as he snuck by Matt Cross of Messiah 7-6. Dukes dominated Elizabethtown’s Bud Croswell 20-9 [major decision] in the first place match.
Sophomore Cale Harter (Mt. Pleasant, MI) had a nice day as well. Carter went 2-1 in the championship bracket before dropping to the consolation bracket. There, he shutout the University of Maryland’s (Baltimore County) John Lapoint 4-0 and Messiah’s Ethan Covalt 1-0 to claim third place in the 285-pound weight class.
