SPARTAN MEN'S TENNIS—2009

CLEVELAND, OH (April 18, 2009) -
The Case Western Reserve University men’s tennis team took fifth place at the 2009 University Athletic Association Championship (UAA) hosted by the University of Rochester. The Spartans defeated New York University in the fifth place match, 5-0, playing to decision.
Case Western Reserve, under first-year Head Coach Todd Wojtkowski, finishes the season 11-10 overall and 2-1 in the UAA as they also defeated Rochester 7-2 at the championship, but lost 7-2 to the University of Chicago.
The Spartans swept doubles play as senior No. 3 Allen Ye (Sycamore, IL) and senior No. 6 Adam Erickson (Ft. Wayne, IN-pictured) blanked NYU's No. 2 double's team 8-0. Ye and junior Paul Smetona (Medina, OH) went on to win their respective singles' matches. Ye defeated Calvin Chou 6-4 and 6-3 while Smetona beat Alex Stoler 6-2 and 6-3.
