SPARTAN MEN'S TENNIS—2009
CHICAGO 7, CASE 2...
CLEVELAND, OH (April 17, 2009) -
The Case Western Reserve University men’s tennis team lost its opening match of the 2009 University Athletic Association Championship, 7-2, to the University of Chicago in Rochester, New York. The Spartans are the No 5 seed [out of eight] and Chicago is No. 4.
Case Western Reserve (9-10, 0-1 UAA) will face the University of Rochester (10-10, 0-1 UAA), the No. 8 seed, tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. in the consolation bracket.
The Maroons swept No. 1 through No. 5 singles and won the first two doubles matches. Senior No. 5 Adam Erickson (Ft. Wayne, IN) defeated Chicago’s Paul Namkoong 6-4 and 6-0 and then teamed up with freshman No. 5, Paul Smetona (Medina, OH), for a 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles.
