SWIMMING'S HOSTOFFER BECOMES AN ALL-AMERICAN...

CLEVELAND, OH (March 21, 2009) - The third time was a charm for Case Western Reserve University junior swimmer Alex Hostoffer (Highland Hts., OH) at the 2009 NCAA Division III Men’s Swimming and Diving Championship in Minneapolis, Minn.

After failing to qualify for the finals in the 200-yard IM on Wednesday and the 100-yard breaststroke on Friday, Hostoffer qualified for the 200-yard breaststroke finals this morning and then secured honorable mention All-America honors with his 10th place finish [2:01.75] in the consolation final this evening.

Hostoffer, who transferred to Case Western Reserve from Northwestern University prior to the start of the school year, broke his own school record in the 200 breast tonight.  He also broke his own school record in the 200 IM [1:54.49] Wednesday.

He is the first male swimmer to earn All-America honors since John Erickson [50-yard free] was honorable mention in 2007.  The top eight finishers in each final earn All-America honors while the next eight [16 total] are named honorable mention.  Pat Rodjom [100-breast] was the Spartans' last All-American in 2006.
