SPARTAN MEN'S SWIMMING & DIVING—2008-09

UAA CHAMPIONSHIPS...

CLEVELAND, OH (February 15, 2009) - The Case Western Reserve men’s swimming and diving team took sixth place [out of eight] at the 2009 University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships held at the University of Chicago and at least one Spartan will be continuing on to the 2009 NCAA Division III Championships in March.

Spartan junior Alex Hostoffer (Highland Heights, OH) won two individual UAA championships in the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke.  His 200 time [2:03.01] was an NCAA automatic qualifier and UAA record and the 100 [56.77] was a provisional qualifying mark.  Junior Drew Swartz (San Diego, CA) broke a school record and posted a provisional time in the 100-yard backstroke with a second-place time of 52.35.

In relays, the Spartan men's 200- and 400-yard medley relay teams of Hostoffer, Swartz, senior John Somerville (Bloomfield Hills, MI) and junior Dan Wolak (La Grange, IL) recorded provisional times of 1:33.23 [school record] and 3:27.17, respectively.

In diving, Case Western Reserve senior Bernie Jacobson (Solon, OH) finished fourth in both the one- and three-meter dives with scores of 357.25 and 355.50, respectively.
