Photo: Coach Chris Conlon Chris Conlon was named Case's head men's and women's swimming and diving coach September 18, 2003.

Conlon was a member of the NCAA Coaching Staff of the Year three out of five seasons as an assistant at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland. The Johns Hopkins' men finished second in the nation twice during his tenure, while the women finished in the top 10 in the nation on two occasions.

Conlon brought his 13 years of coaching experience, in addition to 12 years of competitive swimming experience to University Circle in the Fall of 2003. He replaced Todd Clark, who built the program into a national contender during his 14 years at Case.

During Clark's tenure, the men's team finished as high as 13th in the country, and the women as high as seventh. Case also had 46 All Americans in 75 events, including two national champions.

Conlon received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Natural Sciences from Johns Hopkins in 1993 and a Masters of Arts degree in Teaching in 1996. He is certified by the American Swim Coaches Association (Level 3 - USS, Age Group, and NCAA III) and the Red Cross (Swim Coach Safety Training, First Aid, Adult CPR, Lifeguarding, and Certified Pool Operators License).

FRANK ZATKO - assistant coach

Photo: Coach Pete CarrollCase Western Reserve University’s swimming and diving program announced the hiring of Frank Zatko as its first full-time assistant coach on August 28, 2007.  Zatko spent the 2006-07 season with the Spartans working part-time as the assistant sprint coach.

Zatko brings a wealth of coaching knowledge to Case Western Reserve’s swimming program with 23 years of prior experience.  Returning to Northeast Ohio he began coaching at his alma mater Gilmour Academy and with Cleveland Lancer Swim Club from 1989 to 1993.  In 1996, Zatko became the head swim coach at Mayfield High School.  He led Mayfield to a conference championship in 1998 and was named coach of the year by the News-Herald.   He founded the Wildcat Aquatic Club in Mayfield Village, Ohio and currently serves as head coach and president.

During his years of coaching, Dr. Zatko has helped produce multiple Ohio High School State Qualifiers, State Champions, NCAA Division III All-Americans, and Olympic trials qualifiers.

Zatko, a native of the Cleveland area, earned his Ph.D. in physiology and biophysics from Case Western Reserve in 1986.  He currently is an adjunct professor of physics at John Carroll University.  He also works as the pool manager for the Mayfield Village Parks and Recreation Department.

stephen yutzy - Assistant Coach

An alumnus of the Case swimming & diving team, Stephen Yutzy joined the coaching staff in the 2005-06 season, and is the assistant coach for the distance group.  As a swimmer at Case, Yutzy was a 2 year captain and multiple-time conference finalist.  As a coach, he has helped produce multiple NCAA All-Americans and rewrite the Case record board.

Yutzy received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering from Case in 2005.  He is currently enrolled in the PhD graduate program in Biomedical Engineering here at Case, focusing on new techniques in magnetic resonance imaging.  He and his wife Alison (also a Case swimming alum) currently reside in University Heights.
