SPARTAN MEN'S SOCCER—2009
Case Defeats Penn state behrend, 3-0, to climb above .500
CLEVELAND, OH (October 23, 2009) - The Case Western Reserve University men’s soccer team defeated Penn State Behrend, 3-0, in Erie, PA. Sophomore midfielder Vinny Bell (Parma Heights, OH) scored two goals and added an assist in the contest.
The Spartans improve to 7-6-3 overall and 0-3-1 in UAA play, while the Lions fall to 11-4-2 overall.
Case's got on the board first when Bell scored on a penality kick at 27:55. The Spartans would add an insurance goal at 83:14 when junior forward Mikey Schmid (Oberlin, OH) scored on a pass from Bell. The Spartans would cap off the scoring less than a minute later when Bell scored his scord goal of the game.
The Spartans held a 15-6 advantage in shots, while PSB won the battle of corner kicks, 5-4.
In goal, sophomore Ben Yabrow (Marietta, GA) made one save.
The Spartans are in action next when they host UAA-foe Carnegie Mellon University on Friday, October 30th at 5:00 p.m. as the first game of a men's and women's doubleheader.
