SPARTAN MEN'S SOCCER—2009
Case defeats westminster, 2-1, In OT
CLEVELAND, OH (September 19, 2009) - The Case Western Reserve University men's soccer team defeated Westminster College, 2-1, in overtime in New Wilimington, PA.
The Spartans are now 3-3-1 overall and have won three of their last four contests. The loss dropped Westerminster to 5-3.
After a scoreless first half, Westminster got on the board first in the 58th minute on an own goal. Sophomore forward Vinny Bell (Parma Heights, OH) tied the game at 1-1 on a feed from sophomore forward Kyle Alsup (Monroeville, PA). In overtime senior midfielder Brian Evans (Bartlett, TN ~ pictured) drew a penality deep in the Westminster zone. Evans took the free kick and found the back of the net to give the Spartans the victory.
The Spartans held a 20-10 advantage in shots and won the battle of corner kicks, 6-4.
Case Western Reserve is in action next when it faces Oberlin College at Case Field, Tuesday, September 22, as part of a men’s and women’s doubleheader. The women kick off at 5:00 p.m. with the men's game getting underway at 7:30 p.m.
