Second half Surge Pushes case over muskingum in 3-1 victory

CLEVELAND, OH (September 9, 2009) - The Case Western Reserve University men's soccer team defeated Muskingum University, 3-1, at Case Field in Cleveland, Ohio, for its first win of the season.

Case moved to 1-2-1 overall with its victory, while Muskingum fell to 1-2 overall with the loss.

Muskingum got on the board first when the lone goal of the first half came at the 12:37 mark off the leg of Justyn Leist. Case Western Reserve tied the score at 1-1 at the 51:13 mark when freshman forward Renee Silva (Hudson, OH) scored off a feed from sophomore midfielder Vinny Bell (Parma Heights, OH ~ pictured). In the 82nd minute, Bell drew a penality kick which senior midfielder Brian Evans (Bartlett, TN) converted for a 2-1 lead. Bell added an insurance goal with 29 seconds remaining to give Case a 3-1 victory.

Case won the battle of shots, 16-6, and corner kicks, 7-2.

Sophomore goalkeper Ben Yabrow (Marietta, GA) made one save for the Spartans.

The Spartans are in action next on Saturday, September 12th, when they face Ohio Northern University at Case Field in Cleveland, Ohio. Match time is 1:00 p.m.
